Hana's First Birthday

It's hard to believe that one year has past since I was born. I guess time flies when you are having fun. At the time that I wrote this, mid November of 2009, I can say about 14 words. Most of the words I only say when I am prompted, such as bye-bye. Others I can say on my own, such as doggie, or one-one (the Japanese word for doggie) when I see a dog. I can also say cheezu, raisin, mama, toy, teddy, baby, chu chu, and ET without being prompted. Walking is my newest activity. I can pretty much walk wherever I want, but slowly and a bit awkwardly. I have to be careful because papa seems to be nervous whenever I fall (he's such a baby). One of my other fun activities is making mama and papa laugh. I already have a sense of humor all my own and have a couple games that I enjoy such as hide and seek, and holding out my toys to papa, only to pull them away at the last second before he grabs them (psych!!!). I get such a laugh from that one! Thanks for reading, gotta go eat dinner. Hana

This photo was taken just before my trip to Japan. Although papa will miss me, I am looking forward to meeting grandpa and my great grand parents, along with all the other family members. And of course, I can also look forward to all the pampering that only grandparents can provide!

OMG! I love my papa but someone please tell him to put a shirt on! Talk about itchy. All that hair itching my cute little cheeks. Anyway, I guess it's the price I pay for a loving papa and the opportunity to be held. Life is good (albeit itchy at times) and I am growing like mad from what mama and papa are saying. I am now weighing 13.5 lb. (6 kg) and almost as tall as my teddy bear. Mama and papa spend much of their time taking me out around town and showing me the world, taking me on hikes in the mountains, and playing with me and my toys. Mama is finally getting a little more sleep because I am getting more sleep. I can usually manage 6 hours until I awake with a severe hunger knock and mama has to feed me. Hey, it's better than every 2 or 3 hours, which was the case up until a week ago. By the way, I am now four months old! Time just zipps by when your having fun.

Hello Everybody! I apologize for my lack of entries the past month but as you might expect, I have been very busy. Mama and Papa have finally taken me on some of my first outings into the real world (rather than staying at home all the time). I guess they were worried I might catch a cold or something but fortunately, fingers crossed, I have alluded any illnesses thus far. Our field trips have been really fun, with trips to the mall on cold days and some hiking in the mountains on warmer days. Today, as seen in these photos, I am wearing real small person cloths for the first time in my life! I like the convenience of onesies, however, they don't make much of a fashion statement if you know what I mean. Thanks to papas co-workers for the cloths I am wearing in these photos, I love them! I hope everyone is doing well and I am looking forward to meeting everyone as soon as mama and papa take me on my first airplane trips.

My First Christmas

My first Christmas was a success! We went to Grandpa Martin's house, my Colorado grandpa, for dinner on Chrsitmas eve and I behaved quite nicely. I got to see my first real bird, Quincy their colorful parot who talks better than I do! Can you believe that, a bird! I want to say thanks to Grandma, Uncle Jack, Uncle Steve and Uncle Gifford for sending me some nice toys and cloths, which I am sporting in some of the photos I have downloaded with this entry. Uncle Giffords hat was funny (see photo), if I latch the chin strap it looks like I have a space helmet on! Thanks Gifford, I'll remember your generosity while all the other kids laugh at me!

My First Rendevous

After nearly seven weeks of begging mama and papa to allow me to have visitors they finally gave in to my requests. Mama invited some of her girlfriends over and we enjoyed talking about, what else, baby stuff. Although mama and papa shared some of their, let's just say, non-dinner topics, with my new friends, I believe some walked away feeling inspired to add to the pool of new babies in our circle. This is a photo of us girls enjoying each others company. Yeah, I fell asleep before papa could get this one off. I hope they come to visit me more often. Arigato, Hana

I began shooting this video shortly after I was born and then later added a little clip of myself when I was just 5 days old (click anywhere on screen to view video). My assistant is none other than papa, who is new to film making but did an ok job for a newby. For whatever reason, he couldn't keep his hand out of the frame, so I apologize for his his lack of attention. One of the things I enjoy most about this film is the sound track, Ennio Morricone's classic "Gabriel's Oboe," which I have listened to since, well... before I was born.

Got Milk?

I saw a really hilarious commercial the other day. Have you seen the Got Milk comercial? Really funny and it made realize that I am not the only one who enjoys a good mouthful of milk. BTW, I really think they have their demographics all wrong in that comercial. Come on, we all know that babies, especially ages 5 weeks or less, enjoy milk far more than adults. I drink milk about twleve times a day, that's 74 times a week. Just think what that could mean for the bottom line of say, XYZ Milk Co. Ltd!

I Was Born!!!

Hello everyone,

My apologies for getting these words and photos out to all of you so late but I have been rather busy these past few weeks. If just breathing air for the first time weren't enough, I have had to learn to drink milk, use my eyes, cry whenever I need something (like more milk), bare the discomfort of diapers and clothing that are way too big for me, deal with unpleasant cold wet diapers until mom or dad come to my rescue (never soon enough I might add), listen to my dad who can't seem to stop talking to me for even a brief moment, and squirm in mommy's arms. It's been stressful but I am finally adapting and can manage up to 5-6 hours of sleep some nights (unless I am feeling mischievous and decide to wake up screaming every two hours :)). As difficult as it may have been those first few weeks it has all been worth it, I mean, even mom's milk alone made the trip into this world well worth the effort. Yummy! So, without further ado, here are my first photos for your viewing pleasures.
